A damaged fuel element was removed from the reactor at unit 1 of Finland’s Olkiluoto NPP during maintenance lasting about a week and replaced with a new one, plant operator Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) has said . The work went as planned and power production was resumed with the full capacity of 890 MWe expected to be reached on 20 July, TVO added.

TVO said indications of damaged fuel have been detected at Olkiluoto 1 on I July, after which power was reduced to 65% until 10 July when the unit was closed to rectify the situation. TVO did not indicate the cause of the damage. Olkiluoto 2 suffered similar fuel damage in 2019.
