Framatome has signed a contract with American utility Xcel Energy (formerly Northern States Power) to carry out design studies for two replacement steam generators at the Prairie Island plant. The two original steam generators at the plant are 25 years old.
The studies will be carried out on a joint basis, with Framatome’s French teams at Paris La Défense and Sainte-Marcel covering design and engineering aspects, and staff at the company’s US subsidiary FTI focusing on licencing issues and the preparation of safety studies for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
