Five of the main components for the Olkiluoto 3 plant unit (OL3) have arrived on the construction site between 19 and 24 November 2009. The four steam generators and the pressurizer are now stored at OL3.
The steam generators and the pressurizer for OL3 were manufactured at Areva’s Chalon plant in France. The fabrication started in 2004 and has been carried out under constant supervision of a representative of TVO. Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) has also conducted inspections at the manufacturing plant during the fabrication process. The vessel carrying the components left France on 8 November and arrived in the Port of Rauma on 18 November.
The 150-ton pressurizer was transported to OL3 by road on Thursday 19 November. The operation took about two hours. T
The steam generators were brought to the construction site by sea in two operations with the first two steam generators shipped on Sunday 22 November and the remaining two on Tuesday 24 November. Each steam generator weighs more than 500 tons, which makes them the largest components of the entire plant unit.
The installation of the main components in the reactor island starts in 2010. The pressure vessel delivered to OL3 in January 2009 is installed first, followed by the steam generators and the pressurizer according to the planned installation sequence.
