The UK Environment Agency is asking the public for its views on revising its authorisation to dispose of radioactive waste from Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth. Following the selection of Devonport by the Ministry of Defence for the refitting of the Vanguard class Trident submarines, Devonport Royal Dockyard Ltd (DML) applied to the Environment Agency for changes to its authorisations to dispose of solid, liquid and gaseous radioactive waste. A three month long public consultation period began in March.

The Environment Agency has carried out a review of DML’s proposals and produced a draft authorisation in which it has reduced some of the limits originally proposed.
