The roof and the walls of the Chernobyl unit 4 turbine hall have been damaged. The event caused no injuries and poses no radiological safety risk, according to the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.

An area of around 600 square meters was affected by a roof collapse on 12 February, SNRIU said. The area damaged is not part of the shelter designed to contain the radioactive remains of Chernobyl 4.

There were "no changes" in the radiation monitoring data at ChNPP industrial site nor in the exclusion zone, according to the regulator. This remained the case on 14 February.

An investigation has been launched to analyze the situation that resulted in the collapse of the building structures, as well as to provide proposals on mitigating the consequences. The results are expected by the end of February.
