Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom has offered to build its VVER-1200 reactors in the Czech Republic, according to Rosatom First Deputy General Director Kirill Komarov Corporation during a visit to Prague.
Local media reported on 28 January that Rosatom had offered the Czech government options for cooperation in the construction of new Generation 3+ nuclear power plants. Rosatom is among six companies interested in the Czech project announced in 2015 which aims to expand the Dukovany and Temelin NPPs built with the assistance of Soviet specialists in the 1980s.
Rosatom also plans to take part in a tender for construction of NPPs in South Africa, according to Director General Alexei Likhachev told reporters on 24 January. “We are participating in the request for information carried out by South Africa….This is not an official procedure yet. Later, there will be preliminary pre-tender bidding and then the tender will take place. At present, it is a stage of gathering offers,” he said. However, Rosatom denied reports that had put in an official bid, confirming a similar statement from South African utility Eskom.
In December, Eskom issued a request for information (RIF) for the project aimed at providing 9.6GWe of nuclear energy by 2030. Rosatom and other interested bidders have until the end of April to reply to the RIF.
