Russia and Burkina Faso have signed a roadmap for establishing dialogue on the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The document was signed on the sidelines of Atomexpo-2024 by Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev and the Minister of Energy, Mines & Careers of Burkina Faso, Yakub Zabre Guba.

The Roadmap defines the concrete steps of both sides to create the human resources in Burkina Faso to support development of nuclear infrastructure and to educate public opinion regarding nuclear energy.

Gouba, in an interview with Sputnik, said: “The establishment of this power plant will initially help reduce the energy deficit and eventually support all sectors of Burkina Faso’s socio-economic life.” Rosatom signed a memorandum with Burkina Faso in October on the construction of a nuclear power facility.

Russia has recently signed similar deals and entered nuclear partnerships with other African countries including Nigeria, Tanzania, Egypt, Rwanda, Uganda, Mali, Zimbabwe, and Burundi.
