Ukrainian nuclear utility Energoatom has purchased Russian spare parts for power units from Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant (KMZ), which, at €2.4million ($2.68m) proved to be cheaper than Croatian alternatives, Kingisepp said on 13 March.
KMZ will manufacture spare parts for standby diesel power plants for units 1-5 of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
They will be sent to Ukraine to the supplier company Inkla Trading & Engineering between March and November.
The other eligible bidder was the Lithuanian company Nordetanolis with products from Adriadiesel (Croatia), whose offer was 19% higher.
Diesel generators used at most Ukrainian nuclear power plants were produced by the Russky Diesel plant, which became the Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant.
Technical Director Vyacheslav Rudenkov noted: “Currently, KMZ is the holder of the original designs, as well as technological, operational and repair documentation for the Russian Diesel engines and diesel generators based on them."
"In addition, the enterprise is vested with the right to amend and carry out field supervision in accordance with regulatory requirements. We update design documentation in the framework of projects with foreign and domestic operating organisations," he said.
