Russia and Germany have approved an agreement covering the supply of Russian highly enriched uranium (HEU) for the FRM-II research reactor, under construction at Garching near Munich. Washington opposed the deal and continues to put Germany under pressure to make the reactor suitable for low enriched uranium. The specific terms of uranium deliveries to Germany will be the subject of separate individual contracts to be signed between Russia’s Tekhsnabeksport and Nukem. The agreement is expected to be in effect for 10 years.
