A batch of Russian-made fuel assemblies is ready to be delivered to Germany’s Gundremmingen nuclear power plant in 2010, TVEL says. The fuel was produced at Mashinostroitelnyi Zavod OJSC (Mechanical Engineering Works), an affiliate of TVEL, under cooperation with Areva NP.

Although Mashinostroitelnyi Zavod has been supplying fuel to Gundremmingen NPP since 2001, this delivery will be the first time that fuel has been delivered simultaneously for units B and C.

The Mashinostroitelnyi Zavod works produces fuel assemblies for VVER-400, VVER-1000, RMBK-1000, BN-600 reactors, for NPPs in Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Finland, and Czech Republic. Fuel assemblies are produced for Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland under cooperation with Areva NP, which began in 1994 with qualification of the PWR fuel assemblies’ production processes.

Areva NP and “MSZ” OJSC have entered into contracts for production of nuclear fuel for several West European NPPs until 2020.
