Czech Republic The Dukovany nuclear power plant has launched a 10 year, CK21 billion ($600 million) project to ensure it concurs with new Czech regulations and world safety standards. The programme also aims to reduce operating costs at the four-unit VVER station, in theory making it cheaper than most power plants in the EU.
The project also includes measures aimed at keeping the plant operating until 2025. This may depend on utility CEZ winning permission to expand its Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility at the site. A ruling by the Ministry of Environment on the facility’s environmental impact was expected in September or early October.
