The Russian designer of the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey, Atomenergoproject, has begun work to survey the site near Mersin, on Turkey’s southern Mediterranean coast. Four 1200 MWe VVER-1200s are planned.
Surveys of the 160-hectare site began in March. Engineering surveys are expected to continue until November.
Turkish firm Energy and Environmental Investments (ENVY) has won a contract to take part. Prospective areas of cooperation between the Russian and Turkish industries were discussed at a December 2010 suppliers’ forum in Istanbul.
