Canada-based SNC-Lavalin and its joint venture partner Eclipse Automation have been awarded a $33 million production tooling contract to support Bruce Power’s fuel channel and feeder replacement project.
The tools, designed a tested under an earlier agreeement, will be used to inspect and replace the calandria and fuel tubes at the Bruce reactors in Ontario. The work is part of a major component replacement programme scheduled for Bruce 3-8. Bruce1&2 have already been refurbished.
The tools are scheduled for delivery before September 2019. They will be manufactured at SNC's Sheridan Park Campus and Eclipse's Cambridge manufacturing facility.
SNC-Lavalin said the tools will be operated by the Shoreline Power Group, another SNC-Lavalin joint venture that is supporting the $8bn life extension project at the Bruce site.
“By extending the life of the site to 2064, Bruce Power will create and sustain 22,000 jobs annually, across the province, while also delivering 30 per cent of Ontario’s electricity at 30 per cent less than the average cost to generate residential power,” said John Soini, executive vice president of finance and commercial services at Bruce Power.
Soini praised the strategic partnerships that Bruce Power has developed with its suppliers, which he said demonstrates "experience, commitment and dedication to safety, quality, productivity and innovation.”
