The US companies NAC International and Ionics Incorporated have signed a collaboration agreement to provide an integrated solution for irradiated nuclear fuel management problems. Atlanta-based NAC, a nuclear technology, transportation and consulting services company, will lead the team in the provision of services for all phases of project management, engineering, equipment design, licensing and manufacture of both in-pool fuel storage and dry store techniques. Ionics, from Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, will provide expertise in alloy steel fabrication for fuel storage applications. The new team will also provide fuel handling and transportation of spent fuel for interim and permanent storage.
Ionics recently won a US patent for its highly damped storage rack for nuclear fuel assemblies, which is now the basis for the design of the advanced wet fuel storage racks offered by the team.
