The cylindrical steel lining module 3 has been installed at unit 5 of China’s Ningde NPP in Fujian Province. After a series of manoeuvres over 68 minutes, the module was in place, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) subsidiary China Nuclear Power Engineering Company (CNPEC) said.

Ningde NPP was the first nuclear plant to be built and put into operation in Fujian Province. The station currently consists of four 1018 MWe CPR1000 power units, which began commercial operation between April 2013 and July 2016.

The second phase, units 5&6, was approved in July 2023, and features Chinese-designed HPR1000 (Hualong One) pressurised water reactors. Upon full completion, each unit can be expected to generate nearly 10 TWh of electricity annually.

The steel lining module 3 consists of three layers of the cylinder, with a height of 5.73 metres and a weight of 88.77 tonnes. The suspension used a one-time overall loading process as did the previous installation of module 2.
