Description:

A three-year programme of experimental work and supporting modelling is required. A four-year contract is envisaged, in order to allow for preparatory studies and final reporting. The scope is deliberately flexible to allow potential contractors to determine the most effective way of meeting the NDA’s aims and objectives.

The objectives of this work are: — to obtain experimental data on the behaviour of 14CH4 and 14CO2 in the soil zone and the subsequent uptake of 14C by plants; — to interpret the results of the experiments using appropriate techniques and models; — to develop an updated or new assessment model that can be used to calculate the concentration of 14C in plant material, arising from a below-ground flux of 14C-labelled gas.

Estimated value excluding VAT: between 400 000,00 and 750 000,00 GBP.

Duration in months: 48 (from the award of the contract).
