The National Council for Energy Policy (CNPE) has authorised Electronuclear to continue with an economic and environmental study for the completion of the Angra 3 reactor. The study is due to be completed by the end of this year, perhaps as early as August. However, a final decision by the government may be delayed by the general election in October.

The federal government has already invested $700 million in equipment and initial civil work on the project. Another $1.7 billion is needed to finish the 1300MWe unit, which is about 30% complete, and about 70% of imported equipment has been supplied.
