Spain’s Tecnatom said on 5 October that the Krško NPP in Slovenia had awarded it a new engineering services contract, in this case for the use of non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques on buried pipes.
The Krsko plant is undergoing a series of improvements and investments in order to extend its operating life to 60 years. For this, it is necessary to analyse and assess the state of its systems, structures and components. Tecnatom said it will support this process through this project, which will consist of evaluating the condition of the buried pipes of the essential services water system. To do this, a series of tasks will be carried out that include gathering information and regulations, the analysis of the condition of the materials and the inspection tasks carried out to date, the identification of possible weaknesses and the recommendations for the replacement of the materials that so require it. Tecnatom said Krsko was “one of our main clients in the foreign nuclear market” and that the new contract “joins others executed in recent years in the same plant, in areas as diverse as inspection, equipment supply or the development of the emergency control room”.
