A Czech government investigation into the feasibility of completing the Temelin nuclear plant is collapsing with the committee in disarray. The new Social Democratic Party government has removed representatives of non-governmental environmental organisations and delegates from the environment ministries of four European countries. The EU is refusing to participate in the committee’s activities or to send experts. The panel has been working without lawyers, auditors and international experts, relying mainly on study documents. Completion of the two Russian-designed VVER-1000 units at Temelin has been plagued by cost overruns and delays.
