Three employees of the Volgodonsk branch of Russia’s Atomenergoremont JSC received burns on 11 October while working to check the density of the gas system at a generator at Rostov 1. The unit had closed on 2 September for routine maintenance.
The personnel involved were taken by ambulance to the city emergency hospital and the next day flown to Moscow for treatment at the Federal Medical Biophysical Centre, Nuclear utility Rosenergoatom (part of state nuclear corporation Rosatom) reported.
A special commission has been set up to investigate the accident, including experts from the Rostov plant and Atomenergoremont JSC. The commission is headed by a state labour inspector and is being personally supervised by the general director of Rosenergoatom, Andrei Petrov, the Rostov office of information and public relations reported.
The director of the Volgodonsk branch of Atomenergoremont, Sergey Besedin, said the commission would establish the causes of the accident to avoid their recurrence in the future.
