ASE Group, the engineering division of Rosatom has handed the 1000MW Tianwan 3 VVER over to China's Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation for operation with a 24 month guarantee.
Rosatom said it worked on time and fufilled all of its contract obligations for the construction of Tianwan Phase II.
Tianwan 3, which started construction in December 2012, achieved first power on 30 December 2017 and is expected to enter commercial operation this year. Tianwan 4 was begun in September 2013 and is in the final stages of construction. Hot trials are expected to start at Tianwan 4 this spring, with first criticality targeted for later in 2018. Both units are VVER-1000 reactors designed by Gidropress, and Atomstroyexport is the main contractor, supplying the nuclear island.
The Tianwan plant is owned and operated by Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation, a joint venture between China National Nuclear Corporation (50%), China Power Investment Corporation (30%) and Jiangsu Guoxin Group (20%).
Rosatom said in a statement that Tianwan nuclear plant is the largest facility of Russian-Chinese economic cooperation.
