Toshiba Corporation has announced it plans to merge three of its power systems businesses in North America into a new company, Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES).
The restructure will see the consolidation of the thermal and hydropower business operated by Toshiba International Corporation; the steam turbine and generator business for nuclear power systems operated by Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corporation (TANE); and Westinghouse’s nuclear STG business into the new company.
TAES, which will begin operation on 1 April 2015, will work closely with Toshiba-owned Westinghouse for applications in the nuclear energy sector.

A unified, focused organisation will be more efficient and, most importantly, able to support our customers from planning through to maintenance services," said Shigenori Shiga, corporate executive vice president of Toshiba Corporation, and President & CEO of Toshiba’s Power Systems Company.
Toshiba says that TAES will provide customers with ‘one-stop solutions’ by unifying the sales and services contact for STG business into a single company.
The merger is also expected to generate synergies that will reinforce the STG business for new power plants, and the service and maintenance business for existing units.
TAES will have 500 staff and will be headquartered in North Carolina, USA. Its three main business activities will be: supply of STGs for nuclear and themal power applications, supply of renenwable energy power systems and the provision of related services.
