France’s Framatome has been selected by Spanish operator CNAT – Centrales Nucleares Almaraz-Trillo – for the long-term supply of high thermal performance (HTP) fuel assemblies and related services to Unit 1 of its Trillo nuclear power plant in Spain.
The contract includes nine successive fuel assembly deliveries and related services from 2026-2035. The contract can be extended beyond 2035 if the lifetime of the Trillo NPP is extended.
The Trillo NPP is a pressurised water reactor with a gross capacity of 1,066 MWe, located northeast of Madrid. Framatome, as the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of the plant, has been supplying fuel assemblies, engineering, and field services since it began operation in 1988.
“CNAT is a longstanding customer, and Framatome has supplied fuel to the Trillo plant since the start of operations in the late 1980s,” said Lionel Gaiffe, Senior Executive Vice President, Fuel Business Unit at Framatome. “We are pleased to continue to support CNAT and Trillo through the long-term delivery of our safe, reliable and high-performance HTP fuel.”
The HTP fuel assembly design includes a specific Framatome-developed spacer grid as a major component. HTP fuel assemblies have been loaded into 45 reactors worldwide.
