Plans to develop nuclear generation in Turkey are underway, according to Reuters, with the government intending to start construction in January 2007 and generation due by 2012. Three power plants, using Candu and PWR technologies, are to be developed including one at Sinop, on the Black Sea coast.
The government plans to construct one of the plants but is also considering providing some guarantees to private sector companies that undertake the project. Three 5000MWe power plants would be established by 2014 at an estimated cost of $7-8 billion each.
