Negotiations on the implementation of the second NPP project in Turkiye are ongoing and are not completed, according to a representative of the Turkish Ministry of Energy, commenting on statements by the head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, about a "political decision" on Russia's participation in the construction of a second NPP.

"At this stage, we cannot provide any specific information. Yes, negotiations on this topic [with Russia] are ongoing, they are not completed. This is a long process, and it has been going on for a long time. There is no data on any final decisions yet,” the official said.

Earlier, Likhachev, speaking in the State Duma (lower house of parliament) and referring to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said that a "political decision" was made on the construction by the Rosatom of Turkiye’s second NPP in the province of Sinop. The parties, he said, were working on the details of the project.

In mid-September, Turkish Minister of Energy & Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar told TASS that Turkiye was discussing with Rosatom the construction of a second plant in the Sinop on the Black Sea coast, based on the vast experience Rosatom had acquired building the first NPP at Akkuyu.
