Russian fuel company TVEL (part of state nuclear corporation Rosatom) has signed a memorandum with Spanish companies ENUSA, ENSA and IDOM to cooperate in nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management.
Specifically, the MOU covers cooperation in decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities, as well as radioactive waste management technologies and engineering and consulting services in this area.
In addition, the parties signed a roadmap for the development of cooperation on various projects in the near future. The parties agreed to cooperate in various ways to provide services to customers in the global market.
Dmitry Bazhenov, TVEL Director of Global Development, said: “The need to decommission nuclear facilities, dismantle them, manage used fuel and address radiation safety-related issues is not only an environmentally important task that is fully consistent with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, but also a new growing market, whose potential is estimated at more than €100 billion by 2030.”
He added that TVEL had already accumulated considerable experience in implementing such complex and high-tech projects.
“By consolidating these competencies and references in the format of an industry integrator, we can act as a universal contractor," Bazhenov said.
"Creating alliances with foreign partners will allow us not only to mutually complement our competencies but also to work more effectively in foreign markets,” he added.
