Russia fuel company TVEL is to supply nuclear fuel for the Temelin nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic over the next ten years. It takes over the contract from Westinghouse.
TVEL’s ten-year agreement with Czech utility CEZ has the possibility for further extension. It will see approximately 400 tons of fuel delivered to Temelin.
Sergey Kondratiev, a senior expert at the Institute for Energy and Finance says the switch of supplier “is a reflection of current economic realities.”
“The nuclear power plants were designed under the Russian fuel and attempts of national governments to welcome to western companies (Westinghouse) into the market, resulted in only an increase in operating costs.“
TVEL currently supplies fuel to Czech and Slovak nuclear power plants Dukovany, Bohunice and Mochovce. Its attempts to break into the Bulgarian
