South Korea's Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) on 22 March approved the restart of two reactors in the southwestern nuclear complex that were closed for inspection.
Wolsong 4 and Shin-Wolsong 2 in Gyeongju, stopped operations on in January 2018, and September 2017, respectively. "After thorough inspections, we have confirmed there is no problem related to safety," NSSC said.
The commission had found several pieces of metal inside steam generators of both reactors, but no damage was reported to their concrete structures, and there was no radiation leak.
Currently, South Korea operates 24 nuclear reactors, which generate about 30% of its electricity.
