New rules governing disclosure of fuel use and pollution have come into force in the UK.
The regulatory ruling requires electricity supply companies to provide a breakdown of the sources of their power, together with figures for the level of carbon dioxide and the microgrammes of nuclear waste produced per kWh.
The rules were passed in March 2005 when a new standard licence condition was inserted into electricity supply licences.
Presentation of the fuel mix information has been ruled in order to maximise understanding and help consumers compare the content supplied by different companies.
