The Iberdrola/GDF Suez/Scottish and Southern Energy consortium has dropped out of the Nuclear Decommissioning Agency land auction, according to reports in the Financial Times today.
The NDA is selling land adjacent to three of its UK sites at Wylfa, Oldbury and Bradwell in an online auction. All of the sites have been nominated for the next wave of new build in the UK.
“People close to the bidding process said that the Iberdrola/GDF/SSE consortium had decided to quit after the price of one of the three sites on offer – Bradwell in Essex – jumped from an original reserve price of £40m to a bid of £160m on Tuesday,” the FT said. According to the reports French utility EDF and the RWE/E.ON partnership remain in the bidding.
Brian Hough, communications manager for the NDA told NEI that the auction is still open and that there was a bid yesterday, 28 April. But the auction could end today if another bid is not received.
