Economic development minister for the Welsh Assembly, Andrew Davies, has asked the UK government to consider extending the life of the Wylfa nuclear power station on Anglesey.

Anti-nuclear campaigners expressed disappointment over the move, although Davies said the plans did not go against the Assembly’s policy, which is opposed to new nuclear facilities in Wales.

The Wylfa Magnox plant opened in 1971 and is due for closure in 2010.
