The Ukrainian Kiev Economic Court has declared invalid the results of an international tender for development of a spent nuclear fuel storage facility for three Ukrainian nuclear power plants – Khmelnitski, Rovno and South Ukraine.

Under the original tender in late 2004 the US firm Holtec International had been named the winner but the court ruling forces the tender committee to revise its results, according to local media reports.

The move came after local firm JSC Ukratomenergobud, a competitor of Holtec, appealed against the decision.

National nuclear energy generation company Energoatom conducted the tender.
