Uranium One, the international mining division Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom’s uranium mining holding Atomredmetzoloto, has filed eight applications for uranium exploration in Namibia after the lifting of the moratorium on the issuing of new licences for exploration and mining, Tass reported on 29 May.
Currently, these applications are under consideration by the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Namibia. The Namibian government lifted the 10-year moratorium on new applications for exploration licences in January. Uranium One has a portfolio of assets in Kazakhstan, the USA and Tanzania. In Kazakhstan, Uranium One works jointly with Kazatomprom enterprises in six mines: Akdala, South Inkai, Karatau Akbastau and Zarechnoye Kharassan. In the USA, Uranium One owns the Willow Creek mine. The company also operates a uranium project Mkudzhu River in Tanzania. The company has offices in Moscow, Amsterdam, Toronto, Dar-es-Salaam and Alma-Ata.
