Russia’s Uranium One (U1), the international mining division of the state nuclear corporation Rosatom, in 2016 produced 4880t uranium, which is 1.8% more than in 2015 when U1 produced 4794t, according to U1’s figures for the fourth quarter of last year. Most production (4857t) was from mines in Kazakhstan, while 23t was produced at the Willow Creek mine in the USA.
Currently, U1 produces uranium from the Akdala, South Inkai, Tau, Akbastau, Zarechnoye and Kharassan I mines in Kazakhstan through joint ventures with Kazakhstan national atomic company Kazatomprom. The US Willow Creek has been transferred to the minimum production mode because of unfavorable market conditions. U1 also provides services to the Mkuzhu River mine in Tanzania where it has a share of 13.9% in Mantra Resources, whose subsidiary Mantra Tanzania Ltd owns Mkuzhu River.
