Volgodonsk 1 was shut down and disconnected from the power grid by the safety system on 10 April, for the second time in 30 days.

The shutdown occurred because a heat collector valve on Volgodonsk 1 became stuck, setting off the automatic safety system. No safety procedures were breached and technical systems, key machinery and the staff acted without fault.

Radiation levels both inside the plant and in the 30km zone around it have remained normal.

According to preliminary estimates, the power plant has suffered at least $500,000 in losses due to the malfunction.
