Westinghouse has completed the fabrication of all 157 fuel assemblies and related components for the first-ever AP1000 nuclear power plant, Sanmen 1, in Zhejiang province, China. Sanmen 1 is due to start generating electricity in 2013.

The fuel was fabricated in Westinghouse’s Columbia facility in South Carolina. It has already been delivered to Sanmen Nuclear Power Company (also in Columbia) for later shipment to China.

Westinghouse says is pursuing production of AP1000 fuel across its global manufacturing facilities.
