Westinghouse has licensed its Wesflex™ spent nuclear fuel storage and transport system to Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI). Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, although Westinghouse will receive an annual fee for at least the next 10 years in addition to royalties and residuals from each system IHI delivers.
James L Gallagher, president of the Westinghouse Government and Environmental Services Co, said the deal is part of Westinghouse’s strategy for aggressively pursuing business in this area, either through direct supply or licensing. In September, Westinghouse received a $35 million contract to provide the Wesflex™ system to Consumers Power’s Big Rock Point and Palisades plants in Michigan.
