Anticipated orders for new nuclear reactors has prompted GE Energy to launch an advanced technology centre and field services facility at its Wilmington, North Carolina, site.

The centre will employ “hundreds” of engineers, project managers and support personnel for both the commercial launch of the ESBWR and GE’s ABWR technology.

Andy White, president and chief executive of GE Energy’s nuclear business, said that as utilities prepare to invest in new commercial reactors, it is important that GE demonstrate its ability to complete projects on time and on budget for its global customer base. White added. “It’s a key part of our strategy to have the most extensive and advanced engineering, design and production capabilities to meet customer requirements.”
