Approval for Ringhals uprate

12 May 2009

The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority has approved an uprate at Ringhals 3 of about 5%, which would increase thermal power from 3000MW to 3144MW.

The authority checked the plant operator’s safety analysis and decided that the uprate could take place gradually up to the planned shutdown next year.

Before the increased power levels can be classed as normal operation, Ringhals must apply to the authority for further checks and approval.

Power uprates at nuclear plants in Sweden must be approved by both the authority and the Swedish government.
